Thomas E. Cox, CPA
Thomas Cox, CPA, has been associated with Thompson, Greenspon & Co, P.C. since 1978 when he joined the firm as a Tax Manager. In 1982, he became principal in charge of the tax department. He was managing principal of the firm from June 1995 until April 2007.
Tom is responsible for tax planning and compliance for a broad spectrum of clients engaged in real estate development, property management, financial institutions, government contractors and other industries. His experience includes tax planning for corporate reorganizations, workouts, liquidations, partnerships, compensation planning, and individual and estate tax planning. He assists clients in meeting complex reporting requirements and consults on compliance and planning issues.
Prior to joining Thompson, Greenspon & Co, P.C., Tom was with the Internal Revenue Service, where he was an appeals officer with the Appellate Division. He also served as an instructor for the Internal Revenue Service’s advanced corporate and partnership tax courses.
In 1995, Tom became a Certified Valuation Analyst and has responsibility for the firm’s business valuation practice and has prepared valuations for a wide range of businesses. Tom is a member of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.
Tom holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Monmouth University and has throughout his career participated in continuing education programs of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Virginia State Society of CPAs. He is also a member of the Northern Virginia VSCPA and has taken an active participation in the community through the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce as well as the Burke Rotary Club.
