Looking for an excellent work/life balance and rewarding career at an established public accounting firm? Thompson Greenspon, a Fairfax CPA firm and Washington Post Top Workplace, is adding a full-time senior accountant to their CAAS (Client Accounting and Advisor Services) team.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Reconciles complex balance sheet accounts and performs analysis.
- Monitors cash and prepares cash reports.
- Compiles customer financial statements, the accrual/cash basis or other basis; understands and can explain the differences and impacts to clients.
- Assists client management in an advisory capacity.
- Completes detailed complex analysis projects, and has the ability to explain in writing and verbally to Controller all findings, as requested.
- Review of G/L for any missing transactions and overall accuracy.
- Ability to review sales tax, payroll tax and property tax returns.
- Understand accounting issues and other operational issues experienced by clients in that industry.
- Actively participates in firm industry niche meetings and marketing activities.
- Acts as a business advisor to current clients.
- Can perform staff accounting duties error free and efficiently.
Qualified candidates will have the following knowledge and skills:
- Ability to conduct complex accounting/finance research.
- Takes initiative with clients and Controller; requests information when needed to complete assignments.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects efficiently.
- Positive telephone, email and other communication skills as contact with clients and others will be extensive and ongoing.
- Low error rates and overall quality of work output.
- Meeting assignment objectives (timeframes, budgets, outcomes).
- Experienced Microsoft Windows user – Word, Excel, Outlook.
- Experience with QuickBooks and Bill (preferred)
- Ability to quickly learn and use new accounting software and business development tools.
- Time management skills.
- Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities.
Education/Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting (required)
- 5 years of CPA firm experience or industry accounting department experience (required)
- CPA/CMA or CPA/CMA candidate (preferred)
- MBA or advanced degree in Accounting/Finance (preferred)
Working Conditions:
- Business hours Monday through Friday, firm core hours are 10am – 4pm. May be subject to work beyond normal working hours when necessary.
- Attends and participates in continuing educational programs designed to keep abreast of changes in the profession.
- Essential demands include sitting at a desk, working on a computer for long periods of time and using a telephone to communicate with internal and external clients and the general public.
- Minimal lifting.
